WILDS Celebrates 10 Years (in a Most Befitting Manner)
To refer to the WILDS 10th Anniversary Celebration as convivial would be an understatement. It was more like la dolce vita among substantive women who had banded together ten years earlier in the male-dominated logistics industry. The elegant UPS Townhouse on Capitol Hill was the perfect setting for bottomless Prosecco, a WILDS favorite, truly delicious canapés and entertaining conversations with old friends and new.
WILDS President Anita Pursley opened the dedication with a gracious welcome to the lively guests. Chairman Shoshana Grove was in her usual great spirits and delighted everyone with her charming warmth and acknowledgment of the vision of the two women who created WILDS. Highlight of the evening were a few spoken words by each of these women.
The Honorable Ruth Goldway spoke of WILDS’ humble beginnings and how pleased she is with the way WILDS women, and men, have come together to make a difference. Ruth said her favorite program was when Senator Susan Collins spoke about the importance of women senators working together to make a difference in our world. Ruth also mentioned how she misses her dear friends now that she is residing on the West Coast. Her co-conspirator, Attorney Joy Leong talked about the importance of WILDS programs including addresses by Senator Carper among others and how WILDS has enabled women to have a strong voice in the industry. This point was also made by the WILDS 10th Annual Meeting keynote speaker, Postmaster General/CEO Megan Brennan.
Steering Committee members Kathryn Kobe and Michelle Yorgey kept things running smoothly while “Flutographer”, Beth Fluto kept things pictorially documented as Margaret Cigno’s lovely orchestra added a lyrical dimension. The grand closing gesture where each guest received a wine glass etched with the WILDS logo was a fitting memento appreciated by all. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Women In Logistics and Delivery Services.
